My new *old* piano. Haines Bros (NYC) Victorian Square Grand Piano, Circa 1874. A beautiful finish in Brazilian Rosewood.
The piano originally resided in the Loch Hame home of Grand Haven’s historic Highland Park. It’s second owner moved it from the Khardomah Lodge (immediately across the street from the Loch Hame home) in 1990. I am her third owner.
Needs to be completely refinished, soundboard repaired by a professional with experience with Square Grands…Anyone local? Read more here about Haines Bros and the history of the Square Grand.
She’s a real fixer-upper, and I’ve got sticker shock thinking about the costs of the refinish work. But certainly a jewel of an instrument with a great history and at some point, worth the refinishing investment.
And for those of you who know my family - yes, you can see that with this kind of purchase I am in fact my Father’s daughter and my Brother’s sister. Apparently I, too, have the gene of being a sucker for an antique with a story.
