The Backyard Herbalist

I believe that knowing and using local plants that grow around us is as important to our wellness as locally grown foods.

For both my family’s wellness and my community’s wellness, I wildcraft and organically grow many herbs and plants that can be used as teas, salves, oils, balms, steam inhalations, syrups, honeys … you get the idea: Herbal remedies.

I am outside year-round, in the forests and fields, learning from and listening to the plants. Working with them in my kitchen. Re-establishing our herbal tradition that has been lost for hundreds of years.

In addition to being close to the earth in my herbal practice, I support other herbalists, herbal growers and wildcrafters in our craft and frequently order herbs to round out my apothecary directly from them— especially if I am using herbs that simply don’t grow in my bioregion. It feels good to be connected this way even when I have to go non-local.
