April 20th, Saturday 10-4. Folk Herbal Medicine Making 101. In this kitchen class you will learn the basics of plant-based folk medicine making. Together we will prepare infusions, decoctions, syrups, herbal honeys herbal oils and herbal salves. Each participant will leave with a smattering of fun herbal samples that we will prepare in class.  Participants will leave this class with a toolkit of ideas and herbal knowledge — as well as herbal samples from Herbalist Lisa Rose Starner’s own herbal apothecary — that they can put to use immediately during this winter’s cold & flu season. A light snack (vegan/gfree/dairy-free) and herbal teas will be offered. April 28th, Sunday 2:00-4:00pm. Local Food, Local Foraging 101. Interested in local food that’s more local than your cultivated salad bed in your garden? Ready to go wild with weeds? Join longtime locavore, urban forager and herbalist Lisa Rose Starner for an introduction to foraging ethics and to learn early spring edibles. The focus will be on the identification and traditional uses of native and invasive plants for food and folk medicine. Tips on harvesting, cooking and making herbal preparations will be shared. May 5, Sunday 2:00-4:00. Planning an Herbal Medicine Garden. Join Lisa in her own gardens to pick up tips and tricks to get your herbal medicine garden off on the right foot. Tips on harvesting, cooking and making herbal preparations will be shared. May 19, Sunday 2:00-4:00pm.  Interested in local food that’s more local than your cultivated salad bed in your garden? Ready to go wild with weeds? Join longtime locavore, urban forager and herbalist Lisa Rose Starner to learn about early spring edibles and sustainable foraging ethics. The focus will be on the identification and traditional uses of early spring native and invasive plants for food and folk medicine. Tips on sustainable harvesting, cooking and making herbal preparations will be shared. The class will be led in and around the woodland edges of Johnson Park — a location that is for demonstration only, foraging is not permitted in the park.  Meeting location: By the pines between the playground, pavilion & bathrooms. May 23rd, Thursday 6-8:00. Wild & Weedy Spring Foraging Plant Walk on the Farm. Join longtime locavore, urban forager and herbalist Lisa Rose Starner to wander beyond the cultivated gardens of the Farm and explore the wild spaces of Trillium Haven.  Participants will be introduced to common wild weeds and native plants that grow in Trillium’s ditches and hedgerow spaces.  The focus will be on traditional uses of the plants as both food and medicine; and tips on harvesting, cooking and making herbal preparations will be shared. June 6-9. Midwest Women’s Herbal Conference. A Taste of Honey: A Bee’s Sweet Medicine for the Herbal Apothecary. In this workshop, Herbalist Lisa Rose Starner will explore the role that raw, organic honey plays in a home herbal apothecary and will discuss the power of honey as a healing agent in colds/flus, topical wound healing, respiratory illness, and digestive trouble. Uses for and recipes from Starner’s own apothecary for infused honeys, elixirs, herbal pastilles, herbal truffles, herbal digestive chai & hot chocolates and topical honey pastes will shared, discussed, demonstrated and sampled. June 6-9. Midwest Women’s Herbal Conference. Nourishing a Strong Musculoskeletal System. This class will discuss nourishing and supporting the musculoskeletal system with whole & wild foods and bio-regionally appropriate herbs. Herbal formulations & recipes for injury and recovery will be discussed; and ideas will be shared that can help support the recovery process as well as strategies for dealing with stress, nourishing the body with whole foods, physical movement, and ways to connect to natural cycles of the earth as a key components to keeping body & mind in alignment. Mukwongago, WI. June 17, Monday 6-8:00pm. Herbal First Aid Basics. Join Lisa in her own gardens to learn plants and their uses in herbal first aid situations. June 18, 6-8:30pm. Urban Foraging & Plant Walk. Join Lisa in Baxter Community Center’s Garden for a plant walk around the garden and surrounding neighborhood to be introduced to plants and “weeds” that can be used for food and herbal medicine. Class will also discuss identification, traditional uses and preparations of weeds and garden plants.  Baxter Community Center Garden. Free. 

June 27, Thursday 6-8:00. Wild & Weedy Summer Foraging Plant Walk on the Farm. Join longtime locavore, urban forager and herbalist Lisa Rose Starner to wander beyond the cultivated gardens of the Farm and explore the wild spaces of Trillium Haven.  Participants will be introduced to high summer wild plant medicines that grow in Trillium’s ditches and hedgerow spaces.  The focus will be on traditional uses of the plants as both food and medicine; and tips on harvesting, cooking and making herbal preparations will be shared. $15.00 per person. As with all my classes, you will acquire some basic folk medicine making skills, plant identification and gain a bit of foraging ethic to help you move forward in developing your own skills as a backyard herbalist and making your own home apothecary for you and your family.
